About us

The EIO has an inclusive, modern, and dynamic vision for orchestral performance. Classical music has the capacity to bring people together, to inspire, to comfort, and we are committed to bringing it to life in the most exciting ways that we can.

Education and engaging new audiences are fundamental to what we do. We believe that orchestral music is for everyone, and we want to share it with first-time concertgoers, young people, as well as those for whom it is already their passion.

Our concerts have no dress code, no expectations about applause (though we love it!), and no stuffy rules. We work across art forms, and in different venues to share music with anyone we can. Find out about all our concerts here.

We are launching a new education programme going into schools across the City and working with young people to inspire them and teach them about what it is to play in an orchestra, and make music together.

Our first concert was in 2009 and we have since performed 13 concerts, worked with over 150 young musicians, and commissioned 5 works, with two conductors and 30 soloists.

Who knows where the future will take us, but it will have at its core a commitment to reaching as wide an audience as possible with high quality orchestral music.
